Dr. Lawrence Ka-ki HO is a specialist in public policy, criminal justice, policing, and public order management. He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the Education University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Fellow of the Centre for Criminology at the University of Hong Kong. Lawrence received his M. Phil. degree in politics & Ph. D. degree in Sociology (Criminology) in the University of Hong Kong. He has worked in political parties and tertiary institutions as policy researcher after graduation. He taught politics and sociology subjects in University of Macau from 2006-2008 and in the Department of Political Science at Lingnan University from 2009-2012. He joined the HKIED (now EdUHK) in August 2012.
Lawrence's research interest concentrates on history and sociology of policing, comparative policing practices, public order management, criminal justice systems and public policies. Lawrence is currently engaging in several research projects on Hong Kong policing and comparative policing practices, including the professionalization of Hong Kong Police; Hong Kong Police history in pictures; The transforming role of the policewomen in Hong Kong; Policing in Colonial & SAR Macau; Private policing in Hong Kong; Youth, deviance & policing; Comparative policing stategies on protest management. He latest researches also extend to the politics and sociology of sports.
