Dr Raymond Kong is a Lecturer in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. He is the Chairperson of the Departmental International and Local Engagement Committee and is currently a working member of the Dean’s Quality Assurance Team for Self-funded activities. He teaches postgraduate and undergraduate courses in the area of Curriculum and Teaching. Recently taught courses include Curriculum and Assessment, Curriculum Policy, Innovation and Implementation, and Experiencing Films: Classroom Strategies for Engaging Learners.
Prior to his current appointment, Raymond served as the Centre Manager of the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education, the Programme Leader for the Professional Development Programmes in Life Education and the Teacher Development Consultant for the Chinese Department at the University. Raymond had also been a secondary school teacher with a focus on HKASL Chinese Language and Culture. All these experiences have endowed him with a comprehensive understanding of management and curriculum development in a school setting.
Raymond has worked extensively with different stakeholders in developing new initiatives in education. He has engaged in dozens of research and knowledge transfer projects, mainly in domains that encompass Life and Values Education, Language Education and Religious and Cultural Education. These experiences were further consolidated in academic publications, such as Life and Moral Education in Greater China [The Routledge Series on Life and Values Education in a Changing World] (Co-edited with Professor John Lee and Dr Stephen Yip) and An investigation of Buddhist Life Education in Hong Kong [CUHK Centre for the Study of Humanistic Buddhism - Studies of Humanistic Buddhism in East and Southeast Asian Series] (Co-authored with Dr Fung Shu Fun).
Raymond earned his Doctor of Education from the University of Bristol. He previously studied at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, holding a Bachelor and a Master’s degree. He also holds a Qualified Teacher Status in Hong Kong.
