Elke Van dermijnsbruggeis Lecturer for the Department of International Education at the Education University of Hong Kong.

She has worked for the University of Antwerp, Belgium, as a second language specialist and has extensive experience in International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in Asia and Africa, in the areas of curriculum development, language policy and language program coordination. She has an interest in leadership within the international education context and in (international) schools that offer alternative curricula. In 2018, she won the International Baccalaureate Jeff Thompson Award to conduct research looking into an alternative curricular approach in one international school in Hong Kong.

Elke’s current PhD research is situated in the area of curriculum studies, philosophy of education and alternative education. She is interested in the application of utopian studies to (re)imagine educational policy, research and practice.She is also exploring and developing the novel concept of "punk ethnography".
