Dr. Cheang received his bachelor, masteral and doctoral degrees from the Chinese Univeristy of Hong Kong. He was trained to be an environmental ecologist, equipped with field ecological studying skill, field identification skill of marine and terrestrial organisms, the laboratorial DNA molecular techniques and the biostatistical analyzing ability. His research expertise includes the ecology, taxonomy, phylogenetic inference and phylogeographic studies of marine algae and invertebrate such as scleractinian corals and crustacean.
Before joining the Education University Of Hong Kong (EdUHK), he worked at the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Hong Kong SAR Government as a Marine Conservation Officer in 2011-2013 for carrying out local education and research programmes on marine conservation. He was also the postdoctoral research fellow in the Biodiversity Research Centre of Academia Sinica in Taiwan between 2009 and 2011, conducting research on the marine invertebrate phylogeography in the northwestern Pacfic region.
Joining EdUHK (formerly known as HKIEd) in January 2014, he expanded his research interest to various pedagogical theories and skills in the science and environmental educations, particularly on the experiential learning in the field-based, place-based and service-based pedagogies as well as the e-learning and blended learning approaches.
